ABOUT CEDAR CENTRE
Situated on 2 1/2 acres of land in the heart of Beach Haven the Cedar Centre is an Anglican Community Church. We are a faith community made up of people of all ages and stages of life and from many different cultures. Together we seek to live out our Christian faith in the Birkdale and Beach Haven community and beyond.
We believe that the Cedar Centre - Birkdale & Beach Haven Anglican Church is called to be:
A worshipping community of all ages, races and gender who seek first Jesus Christ and the Kingdom of God in thought, word and deed.
A biblically based community of people who have a local community facing and world facing focus.
A people who see themselves living a radically different Christian lifestyle and yet identified with the world in which we live.
A sign and agent of the Kingdom of God.
At the heart of our complex is the hand carved macrocarpa cross - the symbol of our faith - which captures our vision of reaching out to others & pointing to God in a manner that reflects our collective culture. We welcome outside groups whose vision reflects our own, to use our facilities so that Parent Groups, Alcoholic Anonymous & the youth group have a space where they can meet & connect with others.
Working with a long held vision of providing a hub for the community which can house & resource programmes that enhance spiritual, mental & emotional wellbeing, we offer a range of activities that cater for all ages, races & culture. These include Mainly Music for preschoolers, Selwyn Cedars for the older folk, and SPACE (Supporting Parents Alongside Children's Education) for parents of newborn babies. Our community garden is staffed by volunteers who are passionate about home grown produce & willingly share their expertise with others.
Development of our site was completed in 2010 and our facilities include an auditorium/ worship centre, office complex, historical chapel, classrooms & community garden. Read more about our facilities.
Our commercial kitchen has become a central meeting place catering for both functions & church activities. It has the space & ethos to accommodate cooking classes & celebrations of different cultures
We hold two church services each Sunday: a traditional one at 8 o'clock in the chapel and a contemporary one at 10 o'clock. All are welcome to attend.
