Do not worry

Updated: Feb 11, 2022

Jesus said “So don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will have its own worries. Each day has enough trouble of its own” Matthew 6:34.

Anxiety and worry divide the mind. The biblical word for ‘worry’ is ‘merizo’ (divide) and ‘nous’ (the mind). Anxiety splits our energy between today’s priorities and tomorrow’s problems. Part of our mind is on the now; the rest is on the not yet. The result is half-minded living - and that’s exhausting!

The answer to anxiety and worry is to allow yourself to be led by Jesus to green pastures and beside ’still waters.’ These still waters and green pastures are to be found by approaching God’s throne of grace. ‘Let us therefore boldly approach the throne of our gracious God, where we may receive mercy and in his grace find timely help’ Hebrews 4:16.

God’s help is timely. He helps us the same way a father gives plane tickets to his children. When I travelled with my son when he was much younger, I would carry his ticket in my pocket. When the moment came to board the plane, I would stand between the attendant and my son. As my son passed by, I would place his ticket in my son's hand. He then would give the ticket to the attendant. He would receive his ticket just in time and board the plane.

In the same way God places himself between you and your need, worry or concern. At the right time he gives you the ticket. In other words he will give you what you need to keep going. Our loving Heavenly Father will always give you what you need at the right time so you don’t have to be weighed down with worry. Meet today’s problems with today’s strength and be led by Jesus.
